Many religions not only teach, but also encourage ego-based faith versus soulful faith and do not even realize it. When we get caught up in the external pictures or concepts of God, we may be coming from place of righteousness which may not be soulful. When we get caught up in the rules of our religion we are coming from a place of ego. I believe God wants to be in relationship with our souls. How can we be in true relationship with a soulful God when our thoughts, feelings and actions may come from our ego. Recently my youngest daughter brought home a question after getting into an argument with a classmate about about God. Her classmate was Hindi. “Who is right Mommy?” my daughter asked me. This is what I told her, “If you and your sister were on vacations in two different places. (My oldest is in college, and my youngest spends time with her dad so this was a believable scenario for her). You both called me to say hello. You thought I was wearing a blue hat, and your sister called me imagining me to wear a yellow hat. When the two of you talked with each other later that day you got into an argument about what I was wearing…..do you know for sure either one of you was right even though you both believe yourselves to be right if you cannot see me…..And I don’t care if you think I was wearing a blue hat or a yellow hat, I just cared that you called.” Ask yourself today where is one way I construct my faith from my ego and not my soul?
